Have you been feeling stuck in life?
Trust me, I know exactly how you feel. This is something I have had to overcome many times throughout my corporate career and even since starting my own business.
And I know for a fact that it’s not just you and me feeling this way….
So many women that I have had the pleasure of talking to in our Facebook group, in my private coaching program, or even just in my day-to-day life have spoken about this overwhelming feeling of being completely stuck in life.
The good news is, I am here to share my formula to stop feeling stuck in life!
And if you like the strategies in the formula, I even have some tips you can borrow to put them into action in your life. Because reading about how to get unstuck and actually taking the action to get unstuck are two different things. I am here to help you put them into action.
But first, why do people stay stuck in life?
Why Do People Stay Stuck In Life?
There are numerous reasons why people stay stuck in life. You might be experiencing one or more of them right now.
Reason #1 – You are lying to yourself about where you are in life. This is something we do when we are hiding from the truth of our current situation.
Reason #2 – You aren’t being honest with yourself about why you aren’t doing anything to get unstuck. This is something that we do when we’re afraid or unsure.
Reason #3 – You are making excuses as to why you can’t take action. These excuses could look like “I don’t have enough money,” “I don’t have enough resources,” or “the people in my life won’t support that change.”
Reason #4 – You are too busy comparing your success to someone else, and constantly convincing yourself that you’re just not cut out for the career/life that you want. Typical imposter syndrome behavior.
Reason #5 – You’re stuck in a negative mindset trap and you’re not looking for an escape.
Reason #6 – You are lacking joy and enthusiasm in life, making it harder to take action.
Being able to identify the reason you are keeping yourself stuck can be very helpful in giving you the motivation, or the kick in the butt that you need to finally start getting unstuck.
How Does A Person Get Unstuck?
If you have decided that enough is enough and you’re ready to stop feeling stuck, then you might be wondering how a person gets unstuck. Just the idea can feel daunting, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the problems you need to fix.
Never fear, getting unstuck is actually a lot simpler than you might think. Luckily for you, I have a tried and true formula that will have you moving forward in your life in no time!
6 Things To Do When You’re Feeling Stuck In Life
Stop Living The Lies
The first step to getting unstuck is to stop living the lies. This means taking a look at where you are in life right now and making an honest decision about whether or not it’s the place that you want to be. Many women find they are living their default life at this critical step.
If your current situation isn’t a good fit for you, then you need to decide what changes have to be made.
You can start this by identifying the reasons you are keeping yourself stuck. I shared the top 6 reasons above.
Turn Inward
The next step is to turn inward and focus on getting to know yourself better. This means taking time to honestly reflect on who you are and what you want out of life.
If you’re not sure how to turn inward, these 3 Journal Prompts can be a great starting point to find clarity and direction in your life.
Address Excuses
If you know you have excuses that you are using to justify staying right where you are, then the next step is to address them. And by addressing them, I mean cutting them out… NOW.
As I said above, these excuses could be about time, money, resources, your beliefs about your abilities, or a million other things. Start by identifying what your excuses are. Then…
Come up with a plan of how you will stop telling yourself these excuses or how you will stop believing these excuses. This could look like embracing your fears, creating new habits, saying daily affirmations, and more.
No More Self-Sabotage
Are you guilty of self-sabotaging? Don’t be shy; we’re all guilty of doing it at one time or another in our lives.
But you aren’t doing yourself any favors when you self-sabotage. You are only affirming to yourself that your fears, excuses, and negative thoughts are right, which they aren’t!
So, it’s time to start getting rid of those behaviors. This could mean creating new habits. Or it could mean getting rid of people, thoughts, and situations that bring you down.
One of my favorite ways to stop self-sabotaging is to work with a coach or mentor. This is because a coach or mentor can:
- see things from a different perspective
- hold you accountable
- give you a proven step-by-step plan that works
Overall, working with coaches and mentors is a great way to get unstuck in your life. It’s something I have done throughout my adult life multiple times.
Find Joy
The next step is to get those positive vibes flowing by finding joy in life. Doing this will help you get unstuck in your life and reconnect with what matters to you.
This can look different for everyone, but it might mean getting outside to enjoy more sunshine, picking up a new hobby, finding a creative outlet, doing something for someone else, or just taking a few minutes each day to relax and enjoy the moment.
Take Action
Are you ready for a relatable analogy? Well, here goes…
Life is like a road trip. There are twists and turns along the way. Sometimes our car will break down and need repairs. And we have to stop frequently to fill it up with gas, check our map, and start going again.
This is just like life.
The only way to get unstuck and move forward in life is to take action. That might mean fixing something that needs to be fixed. Or it could mean checking the map to make sure you’re on the right path.

How Do You Motivate Yourself To Keep Moving Forward?
Many people have this misconception that motivation comes before action. But the truth is that it’s the other way around.
So, to increase your motivation, you need to take more action, even when you don’t necessarily feel like it. The more action you take, the more momentum you will get, and it is this momentum plus the results that will keep you motivated. This can be challenging at times, but I know you are fully capable. We all are!
How Do You Know If You’re Finally Unstuck?
You will notice things start to get better. You may even have a renewed sense of hope for your future. Taking action will become easier. You will start to have more clarity about what you truly want. And, most importantly, you will start getting results. Results that show you, yes, you are getting unstuck and moving forward in your life!
So, if you’ve been feeling stuck in life, I hope that this blog post has shown you where you need to start to finally get unstuck in your life. Whether you’re feeling stuck in your career, your relationship, or just life in general, these 6 strategies can help you make progress.
Remember: stop living the lies, turn inward for answers, address excuses head-on, no more self-sabotage, find joy and take action.
Good luck!
